The Cotton Wool War / Guerra de Algodón
Our opening night gala feature is a beautifully contained coming-of-age story set against the rich culture and heritage of Salvador de Bahia.
Thirteen-year-old Dora arrives in Brazil for the first time to spend the holidays with her enigmatic and distant grandmother. Over the course of the summer, it becomes clear that this is not a holiday – Dora and her mother will not be returning to their home in Germany, not even to say goodbye to friends.
In her desperate efforts to get back home to Europe, Dora’s behaviour leads her to unexpectedly make new friends, get to know the city, and uncover the secrets behind her grandmother’s unique story. Named by Remezcla as one of this year’s must-see Latin films.
